Turpin & Miller LLP

We are a young and innovative law firm offering services to individuals and businesses across a range of legal areas. Our principal objective is to provide specialist, honest and fair advice and representation to assist you with your legal issues.

We believe that every one of our clients is unique and deserves to be treated as an individual. Drawing on a wealth of experience and legal expertise we will work with you to ensure our service meets your needs.

Our community care team consists of two specialist solicitors who are able to provide a highly personalised service offering advice and assistance to people in connection with all aspects of the provision of care, whether in their own home or in residential or nursing homes. Our aim is to ensure that everyone receives the care to which they are legally entitled and to an appropriate standard. One of our areas of expertise is ensuring that all charges for domiciliary and residential care are lawfully levied.

We also seek to promote the rights of informal carers by advising them of their entitlement to support to sustain them in their caring roles and are concerned to protect the rights of people who, for whatever reason, lack the capacity to make their own decisions.

We are aware that it can be difficult for some people to travel so we are always happy to visit clients at home or in hospital.

Turpin & Miller has a contract with the Legal Services Commission which enables us to provide free legal advice and assistance to people who are financially eligible, including those who are in receipt of the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit.

Charges for Residential and Home Care - including Top-Ups.
The rules governing charging for residential and home care are complex and detailed. There is much misinformation about the circumstances in which family homes must be sold to pay for care home charges, with little information available about Deferred Payment Agreements.  Top-up payments are often unlawfully requested by local authorities as these contributions should only be made in very strictly defined circumstances.  Care may be available free of charge where there is a primary health care need which should indicate eligibility for NHS continuing health care.
